Dr. Ramakrishna Biswal is currently affiliated to the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (An Institute of National Importance, Government of India). He teaches psychology to engineering undergrads, Masters of Development Studies students along with supervising B.Tech, M.Sc./M.Tech./M.A., and Ph.D level students. He obtained his Ph.D in Developmental Cognitive Psychology from University of Delhi. Prior to joining Ph.D in Delhi University, he had served Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO) as a Junior Research Fellow wherein his Comprehensive Battery of Cognitive Abilities (CBCA) from Intelligence and Aptitude Division of the Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR) Lab received ‘Group Technology Day Award’ from the Raksha Mantri in May 2006. He has served FORE School of Management, Amity University, Pearson Clinical and Talent Assessment, Vivekananda College of University of Delhi holding various research and academic positions. For a brief period of time, he has also served as a Casual Newsreader-cum-Translator in the Odia Division of All India Radio, New Delhi. Apart from this, from his student days, he is actively participating in a number of social service and volunteering activities like blood donation, tree plantation, flood relief, counseling people in distress, and educating the underprivileged through local, state, national and international level non-profit organizations. Based on his research work Dr. Biswal has published in international and national journals of repute that are highly appreciated and cited. He has also contributed chapters for edited volumes and co-authored a book on Poverty. He has completed three projects sponsored by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India. As a professional member to International Societies like American Psychological Association (APA), International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development (ISSBD), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and National Academy of Psychology (NAOP) in India, he is contributing through research, training, publications, workshops, and conferences in India and abroad. In addition, Dr. Biswal also serves as an editorial board member and reviewer of various national and international journals of repute. His current areas of research include but not limited to engineering ethics, space psychology, and caregiver’s challenges for children with developmental disabilities, tribal education and development, sustainable development goals, mental illness, emotion perception, etc. Dr. Biswal believes in “Unity in Diversity” and working towards improving the quality of life and living using the principles of behavioral sciences.
